I'll echo that of the Sex Pistols (tho if it's only touring, does it still count as a proper reunion?). They ruined a perfect ending … if you mandate no Lydon, no Sex Pistols.
Others: The Eagles because they shouldn't have started in the first place. Same for Smashing Pumpkins. Dead Kennedys (no Biafra, no DKs). The Stone Roses, Ride, and the Jesus & Mary Chain (crap new songs).

I agree. Lydon was unable or unwilling to sing those songs the way they were supposed to go by '96. His high pitched Pil yodel had no place on the Pistols material.
Re: Music opinion/question of the week...
Is this really a controversial viewpoint? I don’t think anyone waxes nostalgic about any Pistols reunion tours beyond sheer nostalgia.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I think for me it felt cool at the time because I was way too young to have experience this very mythological band the first time out. The Winterland show was on my 1st birthday. I saw them in Milwaukee and it was fun - but yeah, pure nostalgia and if we can be thankful for anything it's that they didn't record any new music.matedog wrote: ↑08 Oct 2018, 11:45amIs this really a controversial viewpoint? The hype surrounding the Eagles getting back together was awful.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑08 Oct 2018, 11:15amI'll echo that of the Sex Pistols (tho if it's only touring, does it still count as a proper reunion?). They ruined a perfect ending … if you mandate no Lydon, no Sex Pistols.

I don't wanna summon a righteously angry Muppet to rebut my point with a list of great blues covers from 2002, but the Stones could have done their legacy good by not returning from the solo album mid eighties hiatus.

Think Mick n Keef are past it, do you? Check out this video of them in Italy last year.
Re: Music opinion/question of the week...
I think their legacy was well secured by that time, so I get that point, but their 90s/00s/10s output has been...fine. Not embarrassing, but probably better than their mid 80s/late 80s (not an expert, just going by my understanding of general consensus). Live, Mick still looks great, so I don't think they've become a sad shadow of their former selves as many other bands have.Silent Majority wrote: ↑08 Oct 2018, 12:19pmI don't wanna summon a righteously angry Muppet to rebut my point with a list of great blues covers from 2002, but the Stones could have done their legacy good by not returning from the solo album mid eighties hiatus.

The hard part about that one is that they would have left their legacy on such crummy ground with Dirty Work. It's not as bad of an album as many claim, but it's not good. Steel Wheels was rather bland, but also not terrible (and better than anything since). Maybe they should have hung it up after touring that album? I saw them on the Voodoo Lounge tour and they still put on a great show - granted they were just in their early 50's.Silent Majority wrote: ↑08 Oct 2018, 12:19pmI don't wanna summon a righteously angry Muppet to rebut my point with a list of great blues covers from 2002, but the Stones could have done their legacy good by not returning from the solo album mid eighties hiatus.

Re: Music opinion/question of the week...
My problem with their recent albums hasn't so much been quality - it's been quantity. It's like they feel they have to somehow cram in every musical idea...so you get bloated 16 track releases. Cut some of the fat from an album like A Bigger Bang and it probably rates a bit higher.matedog wrote: ↑08 Oct 2018, 12:30pmI think their legacy was well secured by that time, so I get that point, but their 90s/00s/10s output has been...fine. I saw the Pistols at Finsbury Park and at Shepherds Bush in '96 and they were great. They got back together for the money and good on 'em for that. They played great. I saw them again at Crystal Palace in 2002 and it was naff.
