self-promotion

Post by eumaas »

Hey all, this album just dropped and I've got a writing credit on track 6 "This Love Is True" (although I'd consider it more arrangement than writing):

I play synths on it (but the chirping sounds are all theremin played by the band leader) and for some reason I also play bass guitar (primitively). Check it out and yell at me for being a terrible musician.

I've also got something else in the works but won't see release until next year probably. That's a duo project where I'm gonna be handling all the composition save the vocals. Then you can truly indict me.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

The embedded song isn't the one you mention, but I was able to play it on the bandcamp site. Quite laid back, like a cowboy campfire lament. The synth stuff is odd—jarring, but not in a bad way, adding an unexpected spacey weirdness to a pretty straightforward tune.

Also, you're a terrible musician. Just being supportive. :shifty:

Thanks buddy.

Man, I have no idea how to embed the song. All I did was post the link to the whole album and it auto-embedded a single song. Inder's fault. also to be clear the weird chirp sounds aren't me. I handled drone and solo duties, but also did arrangement stuff.

It does have a cowboy rhythm now that you mention it. Clippity cloppity. The guitar was played by a historian, actually.

These are folks from the Chapel Hill area? Just curious how you fell in with a smelly historian.

It's a Triangle-based band, yeah. The historian has been a friend for a few years. It was my suggestion that he play on the track as neither the bandleader nor I can fingerpick worth a damn.

I like the idea of turning to a historian out of desperation. Outside of trivia nights, our practical use to society is pretty low.

I feel there is a fascistic element in, for instance, Prince of Swords...

Seriously, I dig it (only listened to the one cut though; do you play on the rest of the album?).

Lovely two-chord major progression, both singers (a dude and a chick?) have that early/mid oughts indie/Americana, laconic listened-to-a-bunch-of-Billy Holiday delivery, which ain't a bad thing at all. I do think the "chirping" stuff (not you tho, yeah?) distracts a bit from a lovely vibe, but the broad synth chords work very nicely (could almost be a Springsteen arrangement :shifty: ).

I will listen to this on Thursday when I do Maj's Dubliners challenge. Hope it's better than Einstürzende Neubauten.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Composer! I have it in my signature because it's hilarious. I don't agree with his opinion at all and love the Stones actually.

I am only on that one track!

Yeah I didn't do the theremin bits. I agree it has that early indie vibe. My friend (the male vocal & bandleader) has kept that style going even though it's out of fashion now.

It is conventional music.

Just keep playing, man. In whatever style you can get behind.
