Re: Got Any Cool Vinyl?
When I was younger I worked in a record store, which helped feed my collection of imports that were hard to come by here in the States. Unfortunately when I was going through my "too cool punk rocker" stage, I gave away all my "hippie" records that I'd collected since age 6 or 7.motorsmell wrote: ↑19 Nov 2023, 2:59pmcheers...it only takes multiple bollockings and a life of no money!Sparky wrote: ↑19 Nov 2023, 1:52pmNice!motorsmell wrote: ↑19 Nov 2023, 9:48am20231119_124307.jpgJust reorganised the collection...it was overflowing in to the dining room and I was under heavy manners to get them shifted...space is getting tighter!

Good read, thanks. My niece has been in to collecting vinyl for a few years now, I think her fave is the Jesus and Mary Chain, so there's some truth to that article.

It's a good thing that the kids are discovering the Chain.
(I remember a CBC DJ—and this was pre-Dazed and Confused Wooderson—describing J & MC as releasing new music year after year, but their audience is always 16.

Re: Got Any Cool Vinyl?
Maybe the kid is rifling through that record collection because he doesn't have a disposable income and simply can't afford to pay the likes of anything between £20 - £50 for a vinyl album be it a reissue or a new album.
A lot of those 80s/90s acts are constantly being used by tv shows and adverts so the kid is exposed to them anyway.

Your point about the exposure of ~80's bands through commercials is well-taken. Current kids don't hold being in a commercials against a band. When I was young, being in a commercial was a black mark against a group. I'm not sure which is the correct viewpoint.

When I've raised the question with students in my rock or popular culture courses, yeah, it's neither here nor there to them. It's all product.gkbill wrote: ↑27 Nov 2023, 12:00amHello,Marky Dread wrote: ↑26 Nov 2023, 10:42pmMaybe the kid is rifling through that record collection because he doesn't have a disposable income and simply can't afford to pay the likes of anything between £20 - £50 for a vinyl album be it a reissue or a new album.
