A musical observation: Like a zillion other people, I always loved "The Night They Drove Old Dixe Down". Love most versions I've heard - particularly the OG and Baez renditions. Came up on the radio the other day and, unfortunately, it came off (lyrically) as completely repulsive. Current events haven't cast Lost Cause bullshit in a very kind light of late. Alas.
All fair points. Part 2 of your rehabilitation starts with "Rocking in the Free World", this Wednesday at seven.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Rockin' in the Free World is good actually.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Thumbs up.

Reminded me of this great Tom Petty song that is very very vaguely "Lost Cause." However, this live version has not aged well and is no longer on Youtube:

(specifically at 15 seconds in)

What makes it very awkward is when you see the ethnicity of the backup singers. Imagine being black and having to sing in front of a giant confederate flag every night.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

It's about reconciliation. All Southerners, white and black, can get together and honour the idea of whites caring enough to go to war to be able to enslave black people. Everybody had a stake in that, doncha know.

Someone at the bar I'm at just misidentified a Smiths song as a Cure song. Who does that?

Fuck man, that photo is almost ten years old.

Here's the closest one I could find more recently.

Looks like I haven't progressed in my job at all.

I agree. It's a powerful song. And I can kind of play it on the gee tar.
