We've had workers in the house the last couple weeks doing some renovations. On their radio right now: Rush, "Tom Sawyer." What is wrong with this country?!?
An ex of mine (who also loved Boston - you all know the one) thought that was the coolest song ever because of the line "Though his mind is not for rent to any god or government." I used to give him shit about that being really tepid and cliche. Then he would emotionally abuse me, so it's good I found a guy who likes my ribbing of his terrible music taste.
I'm warming to the idea of "Tom Sawyer" being one of those test cases for judging a person.

I kind of have a warm feeling for it only for the ABSOLUTELY PERFECT SKEWERING of nerds in that one Futurama episode.

Granted. Unlike "The Final Countdown," it still hasn't transcended to awful-but-transformed for me.

I mean, I still think it’s a bad song, but it makes me chuckle when I hear it now.

But that is due to Futurama, not Rush.

Do any of the Limeys remember this song, a number 12 hit in 1982? Great pop song, and seems way ahead of its time, despite sounding retro...

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
