She was a monster drummer too, Jenny (and could sing and play at the same time, no mean feat, that).
I got a 2 disc best-of from Amazon last year for a penny and some of that stuff really takes me back, and anyway I already proved my coolness bona fides for life in 1980

Whenever someone mentions the Carpenters I am reminded of one of my favorite Rockford files episodes. There's a silly line where a cop is questioning this guy and he days he was just hanging out listening to the Carpenters. The cop ask if they were hammering loudly. Damn I love that show need to revisit.

Conversation between me and the missuz, re. the Manchester benefit concert the other day:
Me: Awful music, but for a good cause.
Her: So, this generation's Live Aid?

Well at least they were truly live at Live Aid, loads of stuff seemed to be on backing tapes.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 9:17amConversation between me and the missuz, re. the Manchester benefit concert the other day:

Special mention to Robbie Williams for a truly appalling performance, he was like a hoarse old pantomime dame. Liam Gallagher wasn't much better, his voice was an atonal whine that reminded me of an old electric shaver I used to have.

Just listened to Live Forever and oof, that's rough.Heston wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 10:05amWell at least they were truly live at Live Aid, loads of stuff seemed to be on backing tapes.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 9:17amConversation between me and the missuz, re. the Manchester benefit concert the other day:

Ariana sounded great per usual though.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Not as rough as Robbie, it was toe curling.matedog wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 11:15amJust listened to Live Forever and oof, that's rough.Heston wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 10:05amWell at least they were truly live at Live Aid, loads of stuff seemed to be on backing tapes.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 9:17amConversation between me and the missuz, re. the Manchester benefit concert the other day:

I don't know what Robbie sounded like normally since he was never remotely popular here, so I don't have a basis of comparison, but I'll give it a spin.Heston wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 11:36amNot as rough as Robbie, it was toe curling.matedog wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 11:15amJust listened to Live Forever and oof, that's rough.Heston wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 10:05amWell at least they were truly live at Live Aid, loads of stuff seemed to be on backing tapes.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 9:17amConversation between me and the missuz, re. the Manchester benefit concert the other day:

Good lord, Jesus Jones still exists and have an album coming out this year. It's that kind of stuff that keeps me from believing in a Judeo-Christian deity.

Maybe they'll score a surprise Top 20 hit about the dire hopelessness of the new world order and new bosses being the same old bosses, then de-inspire an entire generation by being sampled in far too many product jingles.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 Jun 2017, 8:05pmGood lord, Jesus Jones still exists and have an album coming out this year.
