Octopus' Garden is a thing of wonder. Everything that Yellow Submarine isn't. Love it.

When people bag on Octopus’s Garden, I sigh. It’s a fun, whimsical piece of joy.
I also like Yellow Submarine, though.

I genuinely like MSH. Also, you can sing my oldest son’s name to the chorus.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 Sep 2018, 11:47amI've never understood the hate for MSH. It's lower tier McCartney/Beatles, along the lines of other goopy Paul songs like "When I'm 64," but it's not as off-putting lyrically.

There's a place for both Otopus's Garden and Yellow Submarine in my heart. Nothing wrong in bringing that nostalgic child out once in a while.

I struggle with Don't Pass Me By...it has sort of a whimsical quality to it (I guess) - but it's not good. Then again - The White Album is all about the band going way too far...so I guess even Ringo gets to indulge.

Re: The Beatles song you're thinking about right now thread
In the last couple years, this has become my favourite Lennon song. A lot of pain, confession, and resolution there. Mostly, tho, I love the dual and contradictory nature of the line "The dream is over." Is it sadness in the collapse of hope or is it about waking up from fantasy and getting ready to face reality? The context of the lyrics seems the latter, but the delivery hints at the former. That line, "What can I say?" feels like resignation and a bit of sorrow. Fans likely approached it that way. Devastating either way to have someone who was part of this mass utopian fantasy come out to say, fucking hell, I'm getting on with my life, get on with yours. George would have understood it, but in his gut, there's no way Paul could understand that kind of break from the past.

Re: The Beatles song you're thinking about right now thread
At school we had to sing Beatles songs in music lessons etc.. We refused to sing on account of 1977. The Beatles just seemed so old fashioned and dated but looking back now it was less than 10 years after they split!!Marky Dread wrote: ↑13 Sep 2018, 10:41pmThere's a place for both Otopus's Garden and Yellow Submarine in my heart. It doesn't have the fancy remixes...but a group of "archivists" calling themselves Purple Chick have been compiling deluxe editions of the Beatles' catalog for several years:Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑25 Sep 2018, 10:19amWhite Album super deluxe ultra mondo total wowee zowee complete edition coming out in November: https://www.nme.com/news/music/the-beat ... ry-2382932

Made to be freely distributed - I've found them to be great additions to my collection: great sounding needle drops of the original vinyl (mono and stereo) along with associated non-album singles and a nice selection of demos, sessions, and so on.
