I remember reading that the day the album came out, Jimi Hendrix covered the title song in a gig that very night. Which could only sound a billion times more awesome.Flex wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 2:37pmMan, I know the LP has reached saturation and their are critiques of whether it's the best or patriarchal or blah blah blah, but fuck if Sgt. Pepper ever pops up the radio and I don't instinctively crank up the volume knob when those first riffs start playing. What a song.

I had a friend who was an ardent Monkees fan and always made the argument that they were great because they discovered Jimi Hendrix. Which is fine, I guess, if you think they belong in the Talent Scout Hall of Fame.

Wow. Never heard that. Similar thing happened with Otis - he heard "Satisfaction" one time, went into the studio that night with the MG's and cut the song, only bothered to learn one verse. Did the same thing with "Day Tripper".Inder wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 10:18pmDr. Medulla wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 2:55pmI remember reading that the day the album came out, Jimi Hendrix covered the title song in a gig that very night. I wonder if, in an entirely defensible display of showmanship, Jimi might have got an advance copy that he learnt it off.

I thought they had a new album out for a second.
