I’m so annoyed that it’s becoming the cliche song for “cut to Vietnam in a 60s period piece,” because it’s so much more than that.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑04 Jul 2018, 7:04pmAny list of top ten songs of the 60s that doesn't include "Fortunate Son" is, by definition, flawed. It's a better class warfare song than the efforts of thousands of punk bands that followed.

And the thing is, there's nothing about it that is anti-war per se. It doesn't take issue with going to war, only who doesn't get to participate. It's a class war song, but at the same time conservative or ambiguous about American imperialism.Wolter wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 10:11amI’m so annoyed that it’s becoming the cliche song for “cut to Vietnam in a 60s period piece,” because it’s so much more than that.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑04 Jul 2018, 7:04pmAny list of top ten songs of the 60s that doesn't include "Fortunate Son" is, by definition, flawed. I was driving my kids around a very wealthy suburb yesterday while Ali worked out at home, and I swear I drove right by an enormous mansion festooned with flags and bunting RIGHT as the “wave the flag” line came up and I was FEELING it.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 10:57amAnd the thing is, there's nothing about it that is anti-war per se. Yep they are one of my fave bands. Kenny Chambers is a top notch song writer.

Great band! They were close to reforming about ten years about but substance abuse issues derailed it.Marky Dread wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 3:44pmYep they are one of my fave bands. Kenny Chambers is a top notch song writer.

Gorillaz, The Now Now. Some good tracks on it, and definitely growing on me.

Shame as they didn't have a huge output. Still play their stuff frequently.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 4:07pmGreat band! Have you heard Kenny Chambers solo stuff? Not quite as good as Moving Targets, but still pretty good.Marky Dread wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 5:05pmShame as they didn't have a huge output. Still play their stuff frequently.

I have some of his CDs... somewhere. If I can remember to find them, I'll upload.
