I'd definitely enjoy these. Will look for them.Flex wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 12:04amOi!/Skampilations, Vol. 1-3
Wolter reminded me of these last Halloween, and I decided to have a marathon of the three volumes this evening. Just a perfect balance of 90s era ska and streetpunk. Great unique live cuts to these collections, too. Some big names but also some slightly forgotten gems of bands like The Skoi!dats, whomst I love.

Love the Jacobites! Also of particular interest is the album he made with Roland S. HowardMarky Dread wrote: ↑24 Jan 2019, 11:57amBoth made some really great stuff. I really dig The Jakobites .coffeepotman wrote: ↑24 Jan 2019, 10:49amThat's Nikki Sudden and his brother Epic Soundtracks, great stuff. Nikki's solo work doesn't sound anything like that, he was a huge Stones fan. I saw him a week before he died at a tiny cafe in NY called the Sidewalk. It was kinda sad because there was only 5 people in the audience. He was a great guy, I spoke to him several times when he was in NY. Was pretty gutted when he died.

Unlike a lot of 90s punk/ska comps, they're on the various streaming services and can also be had for pennies used on Discogs or Amazon. Highest of punk rock recommendations.

Actually listening to Weezer's Teal album now (skipping "Africa," of course). If I suffered brain maggots, I'd put forward a Hestonian theory about subversion, but, nah, this is just plain old fun indulgence. Undoubtedly they knew how much some fans would groan about this record—I'm halfway thru, and they really are faithful covers, nothing interpretive—so maybe releasing it is their little fuck you message. Personally, I'm enjoying it in a distinctly non-Gen X way. No irony, just sincere enjoyment of what it is.

I own a house (well, like 80% of it) and have no student loans anymore, so I'm either a sell-out or a lucky freak. Or I'm alienated from my own generational stereotype. Yeah, I like that bullshit.Flex wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 8:26pmHooky is now an honorary millenial.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 7:51pmPersonally, I'm enjoying it in a distinctly non-Gen X way. Sleepwalk, Splatter. Very nice shoegaze band from lower Wolterania. Nothing especially distinctive about them, but they make the kind of racket that hits my sweet spot.

True fact: that cover was the first Wire song I heard. The second was Minor Threat doing 12XU. I knew the former was a cover of someone, but I didn’t know who in those pre-internet Jon Lives In the Suburbs Of South Carolina days. The latter I thought was an original for several years.Marky Dread wrote: ↑28 Jan 2019, 8:21amNow I'm enjoying this. Hey that song "Strange" is pretty good.

Already loving both tracks those covers are both solid. I often forget how fortunate I am to live in a Rock 'n' Roll town and then realise just how remote other places are and the limited way in which music was/is obtainable.Wolter wrote: ↑28 Jan 2019, 8:24amTrue fact: that cover was the first Wire song I heard.
