The only album I've heard is Floodland.
Mother Russia and Lucretia are epic.

Not a fan at all but saw them in 1984. Also little known fact they supported the Clash in 1982.

Otis Redding top 5

Image

1. I Can't Turn You Loose
2. (Sittin’ On) The Dock of The Bay
3. That's How Strong My Love Is
4. Hard To Handle
5. Shake

A top 5 doesn't really do Otis justice as there so many early 45's that got nowhere that are great.

Jeez. That's a tough call. Agree with Marky about the uniform quality of his discography. Even the more obscure tracks are usually top notch.

I'll have to think on this.

About time! The Big O was the greatest male singer of the 20th century. Fact! And the dude never recorded a bum track in his short life. His band wasn't too shabby either.

1. Tramp
2. Don't Mess With Cupid
3. I'm Sick Y'all
4. Gone Again
5. I've Got Dreams to Remember (take 2)

Otis sure was a fine singer no doubt but there are a ton of awesome singers from that era. Just listen to the likes of Sly Stone/Sam Cooke/Marvin Gaye/Archie Bell/Aaron Neville the list just goes on and on. I'm in no way disputing your claim just saying so many amazing singers. Although wasn't "The Big O" Roy Orbison. ;)

Nah, Otis was known in his lifetime as 'The Big O'; his home was called Big O Ranch. Never heard of Roy being called the Big O (dunno, maybe he was to some, but Otis was known that way in the US, UK and western Europe, as I understand it anyway).

I was just having the crack mate. Roy was known as the big O because of his operatic style vocal. He also released an album with that title.

Shit. This is hard.

1. I've Been Loving You Too Long
2. (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay
3. Try a Little Tenderness
4. These Arms of Mine
5. Mr. Pitiful

Is there a song he recorded that you couldn't justify in an Otis Top 5? Such an immense singer and great songwriter.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
