Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I've made this confession before, that I really dig Wang Chung's "Let's Go," acknowledging full well its utter 80s generic pop-by-the-numbers nature of it all. It is my textbook guilty pleasure. I'm sure that I'd seen the video—I must have; how else would I have heard it?—but couldn't recall what it looked like. The damn song popped into my head this morning so I went hunting. It's hilariously worse than could be expected. The concept seems to be "More of everything!" It's like what a sketch show today would put together to mock late 80s pop videos. What a strange, twisted era.

I like plenty of that type of stuff silly videos an all. Pop music is disposable and should be most of all fun. If you want serious music go listen to Beethoven.

Edit: Remember this New Order video?

Everyone was raving about the cleverness of it all on release. But it's equally as silly as any other number of throwaway pop vids.

I think there is a distinction between fun and cheesy. Where one draws the line, tho, is personal aesthetics.

I liken it to REM's "Losing My Religion" video, which was so obviously and painfully arty—as in undergrad art school—as to make a lame song into an excruciating one.

Very good comparison video wise.

Maybe because it's overused in too many movies and commercials, but I've decided I don't like "Takin' Care of Business." Not that it's shitty in a Starship/New Radicals/Smashmouth kind of way, but I really don't care to hear it anymore. Whenever it pops up in some ad for adult diapers or for whatever shitty movie Seth Rogen is in, I groan.

That's one I've never been particularly fond of. Maybe because by now it's basically just an ad jingle.
