Listening to the first DIIV album right now. Really nice dream pop.

Do either of you have it uploaded anywhere? I had been listening to the stream at Noisey for a while, which seems to be unavailable now, and the getleaks link to it is broken.Dirty Harry wrote:Same here not getting into this album like the earlier stuff, Ill give it a few more listensDr. Medulla wrote:I'm still not super-enthused about the new album—at least compared to their earlier stuff—but "The Cherry Pit" is textbook perfect shoegaze/noise pop. I'd love to live in a world where this charts.

Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."

I've stumbled across this group. I liked the cover of the album, so I checked them out on Bandcamp and they turned out to be pretty decent.

I'm listening to it right now (while editing down this chapter that is resisting my scalpel, god fucking dammit) and, yeah, they're okay.

The problem with Gaze is that so many bands stick to what they think the "genre's" hallmarks are pretty religiously. Not a lot of creativity or pushing the envelope.Dr. Medulla wrote:I'm listening to it right now (while editing down this chapter that is resisting my scalpel, god fucking dammit) and, yeah, they're okay.

I agree. You don't have to sound like My Bloody Valentine all the time. Bands that stray more into dream pop (the line is fuzzy, I know) tend to play around more with expectations.Kory wrote:The problem with Gaze is that so many bands stick to what they think the "genre's" hallmarks are pretty religiously.
