Student wants to write about Altamont. Okay.
Student wants to exonerate the Hell's Angels for stopping a catastrophe (Hunter was armed when they murdered him). Oh Christ. So now I'm wondering if the student has biker connections and/or is a racist because, you know, this is fucking crazy.
my friend's dad founded the Canadian branch of the Hells Angels.
Yikes. How long ago was this?

Yeah, that sounds about right. I remember Saskatchewan had a bunch of biker gangs and in the 80s the Hells Angels finally moved in and absorbed them. I knew where their clubhouse was in Saskatoon—near a field where I helped coach a kid's football team—but I don't think I ever once saw one of the members out in public, riding or otherwise.

Might be the late 60s even. But yeah, founded it out in BC and it spread from there. BC of course being a great spot for the drug trade.

Montreal is a big site for Hell's Angels violence—murder and that sort of thing.

Very nearly finished. On target to graduate with highest distinction even if I botch this paper and get a B in the history seminar.

 Tho I expected nothing less from you.

I'm grading term papers and again being plagued by my peeviest of pet peeves—the inability to cite properly. It's just following a formula! And when you've been warned multiple times that I take this shit seriously, they still invent a crazy patchwork quilt of citation styles. I wonder if more attention would be paid if I announced that I was using a grading rubric and that, like, 20% of the assignment grade was based on citations.

It's funny you mention citation. I had a particularly complicated archive to cite and the professor didn't want to deal with figuring out the best method and so let me retain the ad hoc method I had come up with for the first draft.

Anyway, paper is finished! It could use more work and polish but I am too damned exhausted.

Honestly the paper should be twice its length but I wasn't about to overwhelm him with a doubled assignment.

Archival stuff is almost always a pain in the ass to cite. Most people are fine as long as the format is consistent. Also, the prof's laziness is always the student's best friend.
Anyway, paper is finished! It could use more work and polish but I am too damned exhausted.
It happens. I've already had two papers where I've been overly generous because, considering their work in the class as a whole, I couldn't justify dropping them down as much as the paper's grade would do. I've had that happen a few times in the past and always give the benefit of the doubt to three months of interaction rather than a single paper. That's the thing I don't like about the term paper—it necessarily packs so much of the final grade on a single assignment usually due at the same time as other courses' major assignments. Yeah, students should budget their time better, but I just don't feel that someone who has been a solid contributor all year should be kneecapped by a poor paper.
