Farrell out. Not happy about it, not really sad about it, either. Just sorta...meh.
Yep, exactly. He never generated strong feelings with me that he was the cause of problems or was minimizing them. Thanks for '13, tho, which is my favourite of the three WS because it was such a goofy fluke.

It may be sacrilegious to say, but if the Yankees lose tonight and Girardi is bounced, I'd be very happy with him in Boston. Solid, solid baseball mind (with a slight problem in understanding the use of replay).

Oh, Boston media, never stop shivving a guy on the way out of town. :ohboy: If Price is the problem—and make no mistake that I don't like the guy—then it's on Dave D. and ownership to trade him, not dump the problem on the next guy.

They should absolutely hire Girardi ASAP if he gets canned in NY. Besides being a good manager who would likely fit in well in the Boston landscape, he was my sister's favorite player on the Rockies back when he was on the team, so she'd be pleased with the news.

As I said to Bodds on FB, if the FO had some internal evidence that Farrell was mismanaging behind the scenes and/or they're confident they can upgrade, then it's a fine move. But after thinking over it, I'm hoping it's not just a "change for change's sake" move without a clear strategy to move forward (which, you wouldn't think that'd be the case, but lord knows). Farrell seemed almost the definition of net-neutral manager, so it's pretty much all on the FO to create upshot from here.

Farrell was still probably the second best Sox manager of my lifetime. Thanks for 2013 and the back-to-back division titles. It's been a fun ride. Hoping for an even better next chapter.

Dusty Baker is the gift that keeps on giving.

Clearly he's ignoring that Jupiter's third moon is in the house of Gemini this month, too, which the Romans understood to benefit baby bears.

Honest question: Is there a manager with a better overall regular-season record who seems dumber?
He might be the winning-est openly terrible manager in history.

I agree. The problems with this year's team can be laid at the feet of the front office just as easily as in the dugout (e.g., trading Shaw before knowing whether Panda could contribute; mismanaging Xander's hand injury). This is now Dave D.'s team all the way.

I've got a weird nostalgia for Jimy "If a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump it's bootie" Williams. Unconventional and uncommunicative, yet he seemed to get good performances from average players. I wouldn't want him back, but his teams always seemed to be better than their talent.

I can't decide whether Jason Werth looks more like a guy who wears Star & Bars boxers or who cultivates his own special crop of weed on a commune in Vermont.

Well, 12.

Getting picked off by Lester should mean an automatic DFA and exile to the Yukon Quasi-Pro Baseball League.
