I saw a mention of this name yesterday and wondered for a moment if it was because he had passed away. Anyway - sad news. The famous comment made by Jimi Hendrix that "surf music was dead" was in reference to having heard a rumor that Dick Dale had passed away in the late 60's. Some have taken that comment to have been shade thrown at musicians like Dale - but in reality Hendrix was a big fan.
