Like you, I speak from ignorance, but I’m skeptical that the producers/writers would keep that gun in the holster the whole time when, presumably, a sizeable chunk of the audience desperately wants to hear it.

A lot of people questioned why the episode was 6 hours long with no commercials, of which 45 minutes was just a fly walking along a windowsill, but you can’t argue with how funny that is.
