I just appalled the missuz with my knowledge that ALF's real name was Gordon Shumway. How she still hasn't figured out that 95% of what's in my brain is useless is the real mystery.
How did she NOT know that?

I recently found out that the softball league I've been in for the past 8 years had to cancel the season. As a result I'm looking to join the local hurling club, and thats hurling not curling.

I know hurling to be slang for puking. So if there's a club for that, sure, sounds fun.

I belonged to that club in my 20s. Meetings every Friday and Saturday night. Resigned when I had to admit that it's a young drunk's game.

So yeah I figured that might come up. I pulled up a video and after watching I fear I may be biting off more than I can chew. On the other hand if I can manage the running part I'll be in much better shape. I hate running for the sake of running but throw in a ball to chase around and it's a whole new game.

What's the over/under for middle-aged guy heart attacks? I'm in semi-reasonable shape and I felt winded watching it.

Yeah I think I'd want to focus more on the required skills first.

It could be fun as long as the league excludes hyper-competitive alphas who need to prove to themselves that they're winners. It only takes a couple to ruin the game.

which is what was so great about the softball league. Sure people wanted to win and all but overall over 8 teams of 12 to 15 players there were very few such assholes. But yeah I could certainly see that happening in hurling and I can be pretty competitive but mainly against myself I have a hard time tolerating my mistakes but don't concern myself with the mistakes of others.

The last year I played in a softball league, we had a couple of those guys on our team. Quick to criticize every mistake. And, duh, there was a shitload of mistakes made by guys in their 30s and 40s. Like you, I can beat myself up for fucking up, but I'm super-forgiving of others. It's just a dumb game. Undoubtedly it's why my exercise is via cycling—I can be self-competitive and -critical and don't have to worry about other people ragging on me.
