Yeah, unfortunately you do sometimes get stuck dealing with password resets and the people who dont know how their computer became infected with viruses and spyware but their browser history is full of porn sites or other sites known to traffic in such things.
I obviously dont know your situation but if thats what you enjoy try getting back into it. I no longer deal much with end users and Im much happier.

They do make it tough to enjoy your job. Even if I still have a soft spot in my heart for IT, the library makes my soul sing. lolrevbob wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 7:54amYeah, unfortunately you do sometimes get stuck dealing with password resets and the people who dont know how their computer became infected with viruses and spyware but their browser history is full of porn sites or other sites known to traffic in such things.

Cool, I hope that happens for you, certainly very important work.Mimi wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 7:59amThey do make it tough to enjoy your job. Well, I didn't get the job. They gave it to someone who's been there longer than me. I'm okay with that. But still.

It may have been their job to lose. Sometimes everyone is just jumping thru the hoops of a preset outcome because that's what's required.

I've stopped trying to figure out why other people get hired and I don't. lolDr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 6:42pmIt may have been their job to lose. Sometimes everyone is just jumping thru the hoops of a preset outcome because that's what's required.

I have a spectacular career of underemployment, so I've had time to come up with plausible reasons to explain my circumstances (I mean, besides me being me).Mimi wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 6:52pmI've stopped trying to figure out why other people get hired and I don't. lolDr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 6:42pmIt may have been their job to lose. I agree with Doc's take. Sometimes the post of a job and holding interviews is a formality for someone else. I had that happen. I was way more qualified than the other guy but it was a state position and they had to go thru the motions. This happens way more often than it should.
Keep your spirits up though and do practice interviews if you can. I used to visibly shake in interviews I was so nervous.

I have been to two interviews in the past couple of months that were clearly formalities and it sucks. One they ended up promoting from within, and the other they gave to the GRANDSON of one of the managers.revbob wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 6:57pmI agree with Doc's take. Believe it or not, I actually do practice interviewing and had prepared for this one for two weeks, but like you all are saying, and has been my experience, too, they know who they want and do this as a matter of formality. I'm okay with it. Sometimes not getting what you want is a good thing. I'm sure I'll see that in the coming weeks. mwahahahahaharevbob wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 6:57pmI agree with Doc's take. Job hunting sucks, doesn't it? It's so hard not to take it personally. I just applied for a job that they gave to someone 15 years younger than me and who has less experience. I thought I aced the interview, too. It's so frustrating.

I’m beginning to embrace the fact that I accidentally retired a few years ago apparently.
