What does everyone think about the fact that 001 includes only the 2 cover songs from the EW sessions?

It would seem they are holding back on EW so they have the option of releasing a delux version later without too much dilution of the catalogue.

Or were they really not impressed with his songwriting during that period :shifty: ?
I expect what's left in the can is better than what made the album. Boogie with that Baby! ;)

I found that very odd as well - not a fan of those two songs relative to the other obvious choices available (Cholo Vest, Gangsterville for ex., let alone the bulk of other albums tracks and even some of the other b-sides), and I don't understand how including a decent album track off EW would have hurt any intended re-issue. Funny because the Mescaleros albums all have at least one fairly obvious, quality choice (Yalla / Appleseed / Coma Girl) and Ride Your Donkey sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison. Reminds me a lot of Essential Clash finding room for both Ivan and Stop the World, but no One More Time, Charilie, Up in Heaven, etc. Of course, very excited for this and the extras on disc 2 in particular... so no biggie

Another thing you have to consider is that while there may be a number of “found” recordings or demos for a particular artist you have to take into account the condition of the material when discovered. A lot of this stuff they found of Joe’s was stashed away in sheds, barns, cupboards & whatnot & who knows how degraded the sound quality is on some of the songs even after serious restoration efforts. Let’s face it, Joe wasn’t exactly storing things away using best practices to ensure it’s survival after 20+ years. You hear stories about how some artists like Prince took painstaking efforts to catalogue & store their demos/recordings which is why you’ll be seeing new Prince releases with unreleased material for years to come. I think we’re lucky to have gotten stuff like the vanilla tapes & this new strummer collection because a lot of it could have just as easily been gone for good... & the amazing “remasters” Marky is doing for us are better than pretty much anything the label has left to offer

I am a completist and I need the physical product however I have a rule that I won’t buy something unless it contains something I don’t already have in a legit release.
Madness put out plenty of hits compos with only different track listings however they have also done a great album series with a disc for extras for every album.
What about all the Madness rarities I'm sitting on that you don't have?

I'm not kidding either.
Really? How rare I thought they’d emptied the vaults?
I would like an Invaders comp I love the live sets they do.

Maybe it was a rights issue to get the original EW material? Legacy put out that Gangsterville. + b-sides 7" for RSD (which kicked off this thread), and 001 is being put out by Ignition records. Perhaps negotiations broke down somewhere along the way.

Obviously there is a lot to get through and I am slowly remastering the best sounding tracks. Some do sound very rough but there are a lot of great unreleased tracks. I am not sure wether to just compile them as a big compilation of do then chronologically if I can work out what goes where. But as and when I do get there I will share them.
