Thanks for this. I kind of hate this song. Beside the insufferable Southpark noise, it sounds like Joe trying too hard to be the Clash again—or, maybe, Rancid. It comes across as inauthentic, which is so out of character. That said, I'd bet a demo version would be good.

I always thought it sounded more like a 101ers throwback than The Clash. Sounds like Joe enjoying himself.C1ashCityRockr wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 1:18pmThanks for this. I kind of hate this song. Yeah, maybe I'm being too harsh. It's possible I'm just carrying around the Southpark baggage from the time. You're right, it does sound like he's enjoying himself.101Walterton wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 1:53pmI always thought it sounded more like a 101ers throwback than The Clash. And I’ve never seen SouthPark so I just enjoy the song.C1ashCityRockr wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 2:03pmYeah, maybe I'm being too harsh. I should check to compare the timeline to when he did Return Of The Blues Cowboy.

Where does he do the backing vocals? I always just thought it was just Joe backing himself on the original, and I can still hear someone on backing vocals on this new version.

Second chorus around 1:00. Kinda off kilter parallel vocal.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Same here, it's one of my favourite Joe solo songs. It's actually got a tune and some energy unlike a lot of his stuff which can be a bit short on melody, and more brooding than exciting.101Walterton wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 2:08pmAnd I’ve never seen SouthPark so I just enjoy the song.C1ashCityRockr wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 2:03pmYeah, maybe I'm being too harsh. Wasn't sure if you couldn't here Isaac Hayes the way Briggy can't hear Joe.Heston wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 2:33pmGotcha now, cheers.matedog wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 2:27pmSecond chorus around 1:00. Kinda off kilter parallel vocal.

I was surprised you could hear Joe in “U.S. North,” but not Chef/Isaac.Heston wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 3:14pmClear as an (elevator) bell now.

It just sounded like a bit of mumbling really, it never totally spoiled my enjoyment of the South Park version.BR16ADE_R055E wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 3:52pmI was surprised you could hear Joe in “U.S. North,” but not Chef/Isaac.

Return of the Blues Cowboy is easily my least favourite thing Strummer ever did.101Walterton wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 2:08pmAnd I’ve never seen SouthPark so I just enjoy the song.C1ashCityRockr wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 2:03pmYeah, maybe I'm being too harsh.
