101ers appreciation thread

Post by Heston »

Weren't great but you'd get a top class EP out of them...

1. Keys To Your Heart
2. Sweet Revenge
3. Rabies
4. 5 Star Rock n Roll Petrol
5. Surf City
6. Letsagetabitarockin!

Probably better than at least half of GEER?
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Motor Boys Motor is their second best song and should be included, you insane maniac.

Edit - But yeah, cool band. I love their versions of Junco Partner and Gloria, too. Those two songs really help you understand Joe's musical roots and where his mind was when the Clash was about to happen.

The 101ers made some solid music. I'm satisfied with Elgin Avenue Breakdown as-is.

The real problem is it just pales in comparison to the blasts of furious awesomeness we know that Joe would be helping to make from '76-'79. If Joe hadn't been attached, we'd all be chatting up how they're a cool little unknown pub rock band.

I'm sincerely touched by that description of myself , what do you consider to be their best song?

Letsagetabitarockin', just because it captures exactly what the band was about in a couple minutes. Plus it's an awesome pub rock tune.

London Calling is the best 101ers album ;)
I like them although Keys' has never been a favourite. I love Joe's vocals on Sweet Revenge.

"Surf City" is cool Joe was a huge Beach Boys fan. Of course I don't how huge a fan he was because I'm just a fan I ain't written a book about it or anything! :shifty:

And "Rabies" is as punk as anything by The Clash if not more so.

Probably not. But still pretty good.

I also love the original Jail Guitar Doors version.

That whole album's quality. The absolute rawness lo-finess of the sound puts it in like Tom Waits territory. Rockin' Tom Waits.

That would be me! I am just creating a thread explaining what happened, I'm planning to relaunch the website so any contributions/help would be appreciated. Cheers :-)
