I'm not really allowed to say but let's say that if a collection of tapes belonging to a singer were left in a barn after his untimely death and to prevent greedy record companies getting their hands on them a good friend of his who sometimes puts sharks in formaldehyde contacted a specialist sound engineer who does archive transfers. That is where you find them on the original multi tracks and rough mixes! One day they will be released but that is taking a long time. There is some amazing stuff not only from Earthquake but Clash and post Clash.
What I meant Roger (although I've signed so much confidentiality clause so I have to be careful) is that all JS's tapes were stored in his home studio at his place in Somerset. Before that Earthquake Weather multi tracks (24+48) and stereo mixes were shipped to his place in Hampshire. We were originally contacted by the British Library Sound Archive because we'd done work for them for many years and they knew we had multitrack analogue tape machines. They recommended us because the didn't have the expertise or machines to do the job. Also the wanted to keep copies for "the nations hertitage" but Mr H***t was having none of that, plus the copyright situation was complicated. We then went to a secret location in Gloucestershire to examine the tapes for condition etc and then started work digitising them. The Raid drives with all the stuff on them were returned to the chap who was employing us and copies delivered to a company who will in the future be releasing material although they seemed to be more interested in the film score stuff at the time rather than the music. I would love to post stuff on here but I would be sued to death if I did!
They said they would let us know but they seem to be dragging their feet. The company are friends of Lucinda's new husband and although she and Mr H***t are doing a book about the archive stuff we don't know when the audio stuff is going to be released. There are probably lots of copyright issues for the lawyers to sort out. Apparently Joe said "These tapes are our pension"

Re: Unreleased Joe stuff
While I'm skeptical of anything from EW being "amazing," one does wonder whether the demos would show that there was some value in that material.
Everything eventually gets released* as long as a few bucks can be made, so if it exists, we'll eventually hear it.
* Except the re-recorded version of First Issue that PiL did—because of spite.

Re: Unreleased Joe stuff
Great news, not surprising, but it's still good to know that something is happening behind the scenes.
Re: Unreleased Joe stuff
I remember when the alt version of Burning Streets/London is Burning came out, someone popped by the boards to say there was a lot more (incl. Global sessions) but not to get our hopes up because naturally we can't expect everything to be leaked and it would be presumptuous to even consider etc etc
Re: Unreleased Joe stuff
Could someone post these versions? There is a large amount I've lost over the years and I'd love to hear some of it again.

It'd be great to hear more material from any era of Joe's career.

Oh, and someone had handed off a cassette of Walker demos to be digitized and posted here about 10 years ago. That's the last I heard of them.

A simple time and a date would be much more worthy than any paragraph long piece with some namedropping and placedropping. See if he can he get us more info on when not how. /greedy

Yeah, I do wonder what's to be gained by sharing the information except the curiousity and envy of online losers like myself.Chuck wrote:A simple time and a date would be much more worthy than any paragraph long piece with some namedropping and placedropping. I don't think the guy is teasing just being cautious. Sometimes knowledge and being involved where money can be made can be dangerous. I just feel he's letting us know this stuff exists and is hopefully being handled in a decent manner.Silent Majority wrote:Yeah, I do wonder what's to be gained by sharing the information except the curiousity and envy of online losers like myself.Chuck wrote:A simple time and a date would be much more worthy than any paragraph long piece with some namedropping and placedropping. I'm very interested in EW stuff cause I love the album, but demos/rough mixes might really show what the songs could have been. Marky, have you ever thought about working your magic on an EW remix?

Re: Unreleased Joe stuff
Yeah a few years back. And someone else a little recently did a nice job with all the B-sides added. That said It would be great to have the tapes to remix I think I would remove some stuff making it sound less cluttered and some stuff lower in the mix on certain tracks.muppet hi fi wrote:Oh, didn't know you'd done it before.Marky Dread wrote:Again?muppet hi fi wrote:I'm very interested in EW stuff cause I love the album, but demos/rough mixes might really show what the songs could have been. Yeah definitely punch up the bass and drums, as well as Joe's vocals. the midrange and the guitars are a mess, don't know what could be be done there.Marky Dread wrote:Yeah a few years back.
