It was a TV mini series called The Take. If you haven't seen it it is worth watching for Hardy's part alone.

So as I couldn't watch London Town I watched Legend with Tom Hardy playing both Kray twins. Enjoyed it good film.
But then watched This Is England. Something seriously wrong with the timelines not to mention the 12 year old kid in the shed with a paedophile woman!!!
You may think the timeline is wrong but punk/skinhead didn't reach the provinces til about 1983. Trust me, I'm a Northerner.

I thought 'This Is England' was very good. The TV series of the same was even better, quite extraordinary I thought.

I liked the series too, the young kid in it was brilliant I thought. Is the film a kind of sequel to the TV series? I must get round to it at some point

Other way round. Film was first and set in 1983.

Ah right, cheers. Although I am aware there was some class of a sequel to the series made too though never got round to checking out whether it stands up to the original or not.

Hardy looks like London trash, like me if I went to the gym, but the mans accent has a lot of public school to it.
And public school means private school in England right?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

State schools or comprehensives. There are also Grammar Schools which are partly state funded but only accept a certain level of academic ability, kind of a midway point between public and private, I guess.

He plays that part well. You never know when he is going to explode in a fit of rage. I remember a film / TV drama he did years ago where he played the part of a guy who had just come out of prison (can't remember what it was called) very real.
Are you referring to Bronson?

copy form movies thread:

So I allowed that Clashy movie, London Town, to reach the top of my NF queue. I was dreading the start button, but It wasn't that bad. Cute coming of age story, a few unlikely things happened and the conflict/resolution part was a bit light. Easy to watch, lots of Clash songs, and some broad sung "Another Girl, Another Planet". My wife liked it.

If you're looking for a historical document, this ain't it, obv.

Haven't seen this yet but that's kinda how I felt about the CBGB's flick. Just some decent middle-of-the-road popcorn fare if you leave your expectations low.

I forgot the CBGB movie existed, maybe I'll put that on the list!
