That was a good thread. Also - I believe Vince claims Paul's bass amp was always turned way down on stage.Heston wrote: ↑16 Oct 2017, 2:57pmHis book is a good read but is definitely exaggerated.WestwayKid wrote: ↑16 Oct 2017, 1:39pmVince is definitely a character. I've never had the chance to read his book. Is the story about him shagging Bernie's girlfriend in a parking lot true - or just a rock legend. I like to think it was true, ha ha!

Marky Dread Remasters
Re: Marky Dread Remasters
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

He obviously played bass on the live tracks Marky, but you have to really listen hard to discern any of it and on that Beaconsfield video he is following the guitar line. That said, i think by 82 he was quite comfortable with it.Marky Dread wrote: ↑17 Oct 2017, 10:43amYou do all realize that Mick played guitar and bass at the same time when The Clash performed live. Re: Marky Dread Remasters
We all know that Paul learned to play bass rote fashion and by copying bass lines from his fave reggae tracks. However I believe he plays on the first album and all others to a degree. I appreciate that someone posted that White Riot bass cover from Youtube saying it was tricky but here's Janie Jones. Now I'm no musician but I reckon that would take me about 10 mins to copy rote fashion.white man wrote: ↑17 Oct 2017, 4:56pmHe obviously played bass on the live tracks Marky, but you have to really listen hard to discern any of it and on that Beaconsfield video he is following the guitar line. Quite. And you can tell that he plays on that one. Remote Control is another dead giveaway. White Riot however, just can't see it.Marky Dread wrote: ↑17 Oct 2017, 5:26pmWe all know that Paul learned to play bass rote fashion and by copying bass lines from his fave reggae tracks. Re: Marky Dread Remasters
I've had the White Riot bass line stuck in my head all day. I initially dismissed Paul - but after listening to the live track Marky posted - I feel like it was Paul. I think we dismiss him (I've done it) as a musician and no - he was not a natural musician...but I think he learned the bass and being a creative guy - I think he did something with that. Think of it this way - we hear it and think there is no way he could have put that track down...but I think maybe we're hearing his natural, crazy, unnatural, bass playing. I truly think he played pretty much everything until S!. I might be wrong - but it is what I want to believe.

It's great to have these on the iPod. They make me want to turn up my electric guitar and play loud, like a teenager. Thanks for all these.

Gave Tribal Stomp a good blast today, a huge improvement sound-wise on the last time I heard this. The band sound a bit unusually tentative though.
