Doesn't Marky upload in lossy formats? That's why I've never checked any of his stuff out.

Marky's is really good—no lie, no exaggeration—but I think the Sound System remastering is cleaner and fuller yet. Both heal the tinniness of the original version, but I will give the edge to the official remastering. To me, the truly indispensable Clash of Marky's is his bass-minimized version of LC. It's not better, strictly speaking, than LC proper, but given how often I've listened to the proper version, his is my go-to mix for listening.

Marky has been uploading his recent work in both lossless and MP3. For the original recordings though, I personally recommend Sound System. I think everything sounds better than any previous digital releases, despite Phillistine cavils about it being slightly louder than early CD releases. They got much better transfers from the tapes. Now the 1999 CD’s, they were too loud.

I have always uploaded everything in lossless format. Flac files and recently Mp3 320 because people have asked. In all my recent stuff there are both formats available.

The 1999 CD's are not good in my opinion and it appears all they did over the previous releases was brickwall them to make them louder. All the original CD's sound better.

My version of the ST album turned out pretty decent but all I really did was give it some reverb.

The Sound System box set is the way to go for all the best sounding Clash material except the live tracks which is a fail for me. Of course there is still stuff not included in the box well worth having.

All the mixes I made of the albums under different titles was to round up all the extra material like demos / outtakes in one place. And they are the best sounding versions available of those. The GEER demos for example.

I waited for a year of Sound System being available on purpose before I uploaded the remixed stuff I did. My thinking was anyone here would have bought it by then. I only did that stuff to be shared here because we fans would have bought that stuff time and again with each new release. Mick said the box set would be the last Clash release. I hope it isn't and they look at some live material in the future.

For me the two biggest revelations on Sound System were GEER and Sandinista - the first sounded almost like the band had gone in and overdubbed perfectly-matching drums and bass parts on top of the originals; Sandinista like it had a layer of murk scraped away from the original.

Much as I respect Marky's genius at the remixing desk, I've never complained about the sound I get from my turntable with the original LPs for the 1st album and LC. Punchy and powerful without too much, or too little, bass. For my ears, on my hifi, anyway.

Personally I strongly dislike lossy formats. They are practical for using on smaller devices for storage only. But when I spend hours upon hours of work to restore or better the sound of something uploading in a lossy format feels like a wasted exercise.

I appreciate not everyone has a decent file converter so I assist where I can. But it is never my choice to have lossy.

I think Marky's work has been awesome, and added a whole new layer of appreciation for us super fans.

I think Sound System is wonderful and provides an exceptional "baseline" listening experience.

In my view, Marky's work pairs and complements the official catalog, but it's all stronger when taken as a whole.

Thanks Flex that's appreciated. Of course the brilliant attitude of the band allowing the sharing of live stuff is to be fully respected.

Anything I upload I only hope it gets treated respectfully and that's why I only upload here. Fans here have done a great job over the years on this site to keep interest in the band alive. The Megalist gave me a wealth of stuff I never had before and I had a lot of boots already. The effort put in too maintain and re up over the years is sincerely appreciated.

I hope we get more Clash product in the future and maybe something unheard turns up from the archive.

I've been hoping for a while that the Sydney residency gets shared by some person who taped it (or even the pro-recorded tapes that may exist.) It may seem like wishful thinking at this point, but we did just get BAD's Irving residency a year ago and that was 9 shows, so maybe it isn't as crazy of a wish as I think.

Yep that was one of the first complaints when people purchased the first CD issues of The Clash. The transfer of analogue material to digital made the sound too brittle.
It was really noticeable on that first album. So it comes as no surprise you prefer the warmth of those analogue grooves.

Saw a band do a Clash cover set last night for a Christmas fundraiser. They were very good and it was the first time I've seen most of these songs played live before. Set was:
