Here’s where I admit there’s not a single Clash song I “can’t stand.” There are some that I don’t much care for, but they’re still ok, I guess.

I'd say the only Clash song I really can't stand is Junkie Slip.
I knew this was coming.

It's one of the funkiest and outside things they ever did. Toppers drums are monolithic - the way he doubles back on the backbeat with the brushes, the sound of his kick, it's all forward motion. Norman's bass is phat. - I think it's an upright. Mick's warped, phased licks are gnarly, the lyric is giddy in it's truthful conveyance of what any addicts day to day life is like. It's Tom Waits a couple years before Tom found his true musical template. I still can't figure out how they came up with it (sure, weed, but still...).
All of what you say regarding the musical construction is true, it's just shit to actually listen to.

It's not great, but not horrible - maybe a fun throwaway? I think Joe's delivery is hilarious and there is a nice playfulness to the lyrics.

I don't know if I've ever actually skipped/fast-forwarded/whatever through a Clash song, but these ones suck bigly:

the kiddo versions of Career Opportunities and the guns of brixton
stop the world
cool confusion
first night back in london

Not that every other song was a total winner, but these are the only ones that actively annoy me if I think about them.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of First Night Back in London - just never clicked for me. Kid version of Brixton is okay because I kind of like how it works with Broadway.

Flex - I noticed you have that super creepy/cool image of Charley Patton featured. If you're into country blues I highly recommend this book:

I love it, but I get where someone wouldn't. It could be seen as sappy, and the last line "go easy, step lightly, stay free" kind of sounds like something you'd sign in someone's high school yearbook. BUT...knowing the background and their almost lifelong friendship, I err on the side that it's a tremendous love song to a best friend.

Mine would be Listen - does that even count? I don't need to hear an interview set over some kid practicing his or her scales.

I never got the active hate for First Night.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

"hate" is a strong word, but first night is the sound of a band that has run out of interesting ideas.

I like what they were playing around with on S! and CR, even if they failed to execute. I'm not sure what the hell they were thinking they were doing on some of those late era b-sides.

Yeah, they were just so clunky, which wasn't like them at all.
