He defied the laws of scence and nature. Both commentators on the day said "1-0" and "Lorimer scores."

I like the way he is out cold and they leave him flat out on his back. Then they carry him off (no stretcher) and commentator doesn’t think they should rush in to a substitution!!deny wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 12:21pmTrue - he could be slightly late in a challengewhite man wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 12:11pmYou don't get one of these banners for nothing

Great pic mate. They say never meet your heroes, but I had the pleasure of meeting one of mine - Peter Lorimer - in his pub in Leeds a few years ago and he was an absolute gent, chatting happily away about the old days and insisting on giving us a round on the house. Also met Giles and Sniffer Clarke and they were the same. Whatever about them on the field, the guys I met were genuine and totally down to earth off it. That's what makes me nostalgiac for those years.

There wasn’t the gap between ‘them and us’ back then. They did alright whilst they were playing but not enough to change their lives unlike players today who could retire after signing their first contract.Low Down Low wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 4:21pmGreat pic mate. Absolutely. One thing also, even talking about their “hardness”, as alluded to above, players generally got up and on with it, maybe a bout of fisticuffs ensued, but in most cases afterwards I bet they had a drink together and laughed about it. I really don’t mind players now making the money they do, it’s the diving and gamesmanship, pure cheating, that turns me off the game. Really can’t deal with it anymore.101Walterton wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 4:51pmThere wasn’t the gap between ‘them and us’ back then. I've never felt so down on football than as I have for the last 2 or 3 years. Been a huge fan since 7 years old but just feel jaded about the game now. I've even stopped watching Match of the Day which is a big sign my interest is waning. Sad really.Low Down Low wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 5:32pmAbsolutely. I agree. Surprisingly it was Alex Ferguson Who I first heard say that the players deserve to earn the money they do when compared to film stars, pop stars etc. and when you take into account how much money they earn for their employers.Low Down Low wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 5:32pmAbsolutely. I also hate the gamesmanship and falling over over , feigning injury basically ‘cheating’.
Imagine what someone like George Best could do in today’s game when no one can tackle him???

Interesting about Fergie, I never minded about the old champagne socialist jibes he was getting as a working class son of Govan, but getting mixed up with that irish mafia crowd with the racehorses was a step too far for me. That was pure ego and greed and he got slapped down in the end for biting off more than he could chew.101Walterton wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 5:56pmI agree. Pretty much exact same here. It’s actually years since I watched motd and not even certain I’ve watched a full 90 minute match this year. I thought it was just me!Heston wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 5:49pmI've never felt so down on football than as I have for the last 2 or 3 years. Yes I always thought Fergie was wrong taking on the Coolmore mafia and was being greedy with what he wanted. Was just about the only thing he got wrong other selling Jaap Stam too early.Low Down Low wrote: ↑18 Mar 2019, 7:26pmInteresting about Fergie, I never minded about the old champagne socialist jibes he was getting as a working class son of Govan, but getting mixed up with that irish mafia crowd with the racehorses was a step too far for me. Hello,
I worked with Pele back in the day. He was a great person - had plenty of time to chat with kids and others at the photo shoot. Everyone got an individual photo with Pele. See the photo attached - I'm in goal - the shot went wide. I have a story about penalty kicks I'll share with anyone in a pub.
