Re: The Clash observations thread.
I watched (most of) the recent Johnny Knoxville vehicle "Action Point" over the weekend. Early on - there is a scene where he picks up his daughter (she's maybe 15-16 years old) for the summer and on the drive she pops in a cassette and plays Janie Jones. Knoxville's character says "the beats good, but the singer sounds harelipped". His daughter then says that they're playing New York and that a lot of her friends are going, but she's not too disappointed (though she clearly is). She then adds that they're also playing LA and asks JK if they can go and he says sure.
I know it's just a movie and historical facts are probably not rock solid - but I found myself trying to figure out the year the movie was set in based on that info. Maybe the "Take the Fifth" Tour of 1979? They played the Palladium in NYC and then later played the Hollywood Palladium in LA.
Maybe also the "16 Tons" Tour...but on that one they played LA before they played NYC.
The US version of the Clash came out in July 1979 - which would have been a handful of month before the NYC Palladium show - so I'm thinking the movie was set in the summer of 1979 and yeah - too much time on my hands today. It's cold and snowy outside!
