Those '99 discs are crap!
#DistortedBell
That bell is the least of the problems with those discs.
Who remastered the '99 discs & what is wrong with them please?
I think Bill Price remastered the '99 editions. Brickwalled so they are too loud and have too much bass. The job that Tim Turan did on the SS box is fantastic.

I think that Vic Anesini did the mastering on the original COB box (the long box) and that sounds way better to my ears than the loud/harsh later reissue.
I think Bill supervised the 1999/2000 remasters. I have all of them and will check the exact credits.

The glitch at the beginning of Mag 7 on the 2013 remaster bugs me, though.

I think Briggy is referring to the scraping noise on the 2013 master, the bell had been repaired.

According to Bill they tried to get the sound to match the warmth of the original vinyl versions. But they ended up with too much bass.

So, confirmed that Bill didn’t remaster them, and it took 2 blokes to do it.

For the 99 remaster of Sandinista they used the version Bill Price had kept in his shed. Says a lot about the esteem in which bands were held by record companies back in those days.

Crazy story. I think many people assume old recordings are always properly stored and easy to access. I read an interesting articles on the Stones mono set and the engineer in charge talked about how it wasn't easy to track down all of the master recordings and how difficult it was to engineer a cohesive sounding box.

BTW, I was in Charleston, SC this weekend and saw a restaurant advertising "Low Country Shrimp and Grits" and all I could think of was Heston's signature!

Right so remastered by Ray and Bob and supervised by Bill. But what exactly does that mean? Ray and Bob do the work while Bill checks everything is ok and signs off on it. Just as guilty in my book and I love Bill Price. Those '99 remasters sound bad to me. I remember how everyone complained about "The Clash" sounding awful on it's first cd release but that first version sounds better the '99 remaster.

It's completely nuts. If Bill didn't have a version they would've remastered what..an old cd or vinyl. Welcome to my world. ;)
