Talked about joining the band and how cool Mick looked compared to London SS days and how he had a week to learn the album. His favorite song was P&T because it suggested they weren't into just straight rock. He talks about Garageland being his favorite song to play off the album but describes the Career Ops beat, so I'm not sure which one is actually his favorite. He sounds good though.Flex wrote: ↑06 Apr 2017, 8:40pmGist of what he said?Chuck Mangione wrote: ↑06 Apr 2017, 7:47pmTopper interview re-self titled anniversary album: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04z4y08
The Clash observations thread.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Hate and War was also mentioned.
Re: The Clash observations thread.
I think Marky was pointing out that Joe sings "Anger is A power," rather than "Anger is power," which you noted in the original. Mick's prominence in the mix also could have something to do with his higher pitch, which hits the human ear a little clearer.matedog wrote: ↑07 Apr 2017, 12:31amJoe sings "anger is". Mick sounds double tracked which might be why he's a little more up front in the mix. Kory or Hes might have better insight.

I'd never noticed the "more work" MJ throws in at the end there.

Where's Joe's "who's barmy now?"
EDIT: which I actually thought for years was "He's bummed out!"

I'm not 100% convinced it's the full finished vocal take.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑07 Apr 2017, 8:06pmWhere's Joe's "who's barmy now?"

A few of the rock band stems go on a bit longer than the final album mixes.Marky Dread wrote: ↑08 Apr 2017, 3:51pmI'm not 100% convinced it's the full finished vocal take.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑07 Apr 2017, 8:06pmWhere's Joe's "who's barmy now?"

Listening to the Rat Patrol version of Know Your Rights, what the hell is this "fish money" that we have a right to? Is fish money actually a thing?

I think Joe meant to say "fish for money", as in - everyone has the right to try their luck at getting some money, i.e. fishing for money.

Re: The Clash observations thread.
Most likely a biblical reference from Matthew 17.27. I believe It's a reference to paying taxes (a tax on the Jews).
"Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee."

Is that Joe on the front of Cut the Crap? I always assumed it was some random young punk rocker then I saw this...

Re: The Clash observations thread.
It's not Joe. The same guy with his arm around the young girl punk on the TIE cover. If you look at Joe on the rear and inner of CtC you can cleary see Joe is not sporting a full mohawk at this stage.
Even here you can see Joe's hair is not fully shaved on the sides.
Joe should've been in Lord of the Rings with those ears.

Re: The Clash observations thread.
Danny from the Rise and Fall doc said the guy on the cover of CTC and the TIE single (with girlfriend) is artist Eddie King's brother and his gf. Eddie King did the Straight to Hell single art and I assume the CTC art.
