Re: Sound System Announcement
I'm late to the party and just got the box set as a gift. This may have been discussed but I got a kick out of Mick's piece in the new Armagideon Times, treating The Clash as if it were a TV show with each album being a season and each song being an episode. He must be a fellow TV addict.

Once Mick feels the wounds of the real fans have started to heal, then he can jab the knife in again and again and again. Then it'll be nothing but Combat Rock and entries from his diary that show he always hated rock and was ready to turn the Clash in Spandau Ballet.Marky Dread wrote:When's the second box set being released?

Seriously, all I want is a remixed CtC and maybe a good Topper show. DVD-wise, I'd love a thorough round up of their tv appearances in the best quality.

A remixed CtC with all the sound effects removed all the synth sounds removed. Won't be much of Dictator left to hear.Heston wrote:Seriously, all I want is a remixed CtC and maybe a good Topper show. DVD-wise, I'd love a thorough round up of their tv appearances in the best quality.

The Clash on TV boot is OK. I would still like to see a multi disc live package.

Re: Sound System Announcement
I just want the complete recording sessions that the studio versions of Do It Now and Sex Mad War are from. These include real versions of all the songs from the album plus Pouring Rain, Glue Zombie, Jericho etc. These also probably don't exist but one can dream.
Re: Sound System Announcement
Just flicking through the Soundsystem box set. Bit off a half job rehash.
Remastered CD's (hardly any improvement) with book type layout.
DVD with old stuff and a 4 tracks from the 15 unreleased at Sussex. Half a job? The rest nothing new. A montage form Don and one from Julian with nothing new.
A bottom of the barrel 3CD extras covering every marginal version of track and 5 unreleased Lyceum tracks (Cheapskates came out unofficially on FHTE 2 as did SEH). Why not full gig from 28th?
Paper boxes and Trinkets
Some of the official stuff needs to become Sony official. A DVD box set could contain any number of gigs from France, Japan, California, London, Aylesbury, Manchester, unseen Victoria Park, Turin, etc…
On the audio front a box set of outages (a la London Calling) and in the case of CtC remixed as Out of Control with demo tracks (re recorded if necessary)

Am I right in thinking Julian Temple is mistaken when he says the footage at the National Film School was February 1977? Must have been earlier than that and pre Beaconsfield?

The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is a film school established in 1971 and based at Beaconsfield Studios in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.

So the Beaconsfield demos were filmed and that is what is on the SS DVD?Marky Dread wrote:One and the same.101Walterton wrote:Am I right in thinking Julian Temple is mistaken when he says the footage at the National Film School was February 1977? And he is wrong when he said February 77 then?

Re: Sound System Announcement
Yes I believe he is wrong (slightly) as in Feb '77 The Clash were in CBS Studio, Whitfield Street, London. Recording their debut.101Walterton wrote:So the Beaconsfield demos were filmed and that is what is on the SS DVD?Marky Dread wrote:One and the same.101Walterton wrote:Am I right in thinking Julian Temple is mistaken when he says the footage at the National Film School was February 1977? The promos for WR/1977/LB were filmed at Beaconsfield in April.
Polydor Demos produced by Guy Stevens - Nov '76
Beaconsfield Demos produced by Mickey Foote - 12th Jan '77
Beaconsfield Promo film shoot - Julien Temple - 26th Apr '77
"Not satisfied with the 'Polydor Demos', The Clash had a go early new year at producing something better at Beaconsfield Studios with Mikey Foote. Terry Chimes stands in on drums again following on from Rob Harper.
From these Mickey Foote sessions, White Riot was remixed for the LP."
Julien Temple - "On the Sunday evening when we knew the gatekeeper was down at the pub, we smuggled the band's van into the film school and onto the old movie sound stage that was part of these old movie studios where the film school was based."
The "London's Burning" (Live/Mono) B-side of the Remote Control 7'' single is the version from the video shoot remixed.
There are 7 reels of CBS tapes now in the hands of a private collector of the recording sessions for the debut album. It is yet unknown if they contain any alt. mixes or just the final takes. Here's what's on those reels.
