Soundboard recording of Clash II from Stockholm 1984 + Bonds

Hi all, thank you for contributing to such a great forum!

I was wondering if you could help me out with some tips or information.
I’ve been a Clash fan ever since I was blasted with “Clash City Rockers” at top volume one evening in the north Vietnam countryside back in 1979 (long story...), and I’m now, after a few false starts, hard disk crashes, and vinyl collection being stolen, slowly rebuilding my once extensive Clash collection.

As I’ve always liked the “Five Alive”bootleg, I was very surprised to accidentaly come across some live songs on YouTube allegedly from the same show but which sound like soundboard recordings: (since removed by the user).
Does anyone have any idea where these originated from? I've never heard of a soundboard recording from this show, but this was definitely from a way better source than the Five Alive bootleg.

Also, I’d be most grateful if anyone could help me sort out which is the best (and best sounding) Bond’s show – I had a tape I loved with great sound quality ages ago, and seem to remember it being from the final evening, with close to thirty songs on it. I’ve downloaded a few Bond’s shows off of the Mega List and elsewhere, but it seems a bit confused as to the dates and sometimes the actual shows don’t match the dates. Also, on the best sounding show that I’ve heard (from the 13? available), Joe’s guitar is horribly out of tune, ruining an otherwise good show.

Lots of questions, sorry! Hope someone can help.

If they don't reply here, I recommend sending a PM to matedog (keeper of the megalist) or Rat Patrol. Those two are the most reliable sources of knowledge on the board when it comes to boots.

With the youtube link removed, it's hard to tell. I've never heard any good soundboards from Clash 2 other than GEED (Give Em Enough Dope). The 2/17/84 and 3/1/84 are allegedly soundboards, but have always sounded pretty crappy and distant. The best sounding Bond's show is the show from the 9th with the radio broadcast. It does sound like you are describing the 13th given the number of tracks (it was also probably the best show from that run). It's an audience recording, though the sound isn't bad.

Five Alive is the lowest gen available, and as far as I know it's never been upgraded in 20 years so what we've got is what we've got. I do know the FLAC rips made a hell of a lot of difference from the shitty old MP3's that were polluted all around the 'net dating back to the Napster era. A clean rip probably accounts for a lot of it.

It could very well be an FM broadcast source since the separation is really good, although pretty far from pro quality. Hard to tell...good equipment and someone who knows what they're doing could make an audience recording almost indistinguishable. This source could tilt either way: mediocre SBD or superlative audience.

Did the 9th Bonds recording not have mick's geetar low in the mix and did someone not matrix it with an audience recording or did i just dream it all
BTW IMHO Bonds should have its own sub-forum.

Hasn't anyone done a decent Five Alive rip yet? The ones out there all sound like ass compared to the vinyl.

This is from the Megalist FLAC:

Does that one sound like the original article? I've never heard the original LP of it, but that FLAC rip was head-and-shoulders the best rip available anywhere online and came from a well-vetted tape trader (can't remember who...was FLAC'd on the pre-2008 board).

The MP3 sourcing has been fucked ever since it was first circulated on Danny Caustic's FTP in the late-90's. One bad rip 17 years or whatever ago went viral, landed in every record store bin as a shitty CD-R boot, and got re-ripped and seeded on Napster, Limewire, and every other bygone file sharing network. That swill still appears in these YouTube rips to this day on this and several other usual-suspects boots that were long ago superseded by dead-obvious upgrades or clean rips. It'd be fascinating cyberforensics to trace the lineage all the way back and figure out who was the numbnuts Patient Zero who didn't know how to "Save As" a WAV file to MP3 in Winamp back in 1997.

That definitely sounds a lot better than most of the rips I've heard- has a nice warm midrange- but seems to be a bit muffled in the upper range. Granted the source isn't anywhere near as good as the Dope mix- it's squelched and dry in comparison. It could definitely use some EQing in a program more flexible than Audacity. But all of the CDs that came out of Italy in the early 90s were shit compared to the vinyl boots they were sourcing from. The WNEW is hot as hell on vinyl and deadly on CD.
