I think Billy Joel wrote it.

I'd guess 1985, it would probably have been played on the '84 dates if it had been written by then.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Wasn't played in '84 per the few known live tracklists from that year.

Of course, if that was written during the T.R.A.C. Mick-Topper proto-lineup it could still predate the album sessions. It's not known totally what they had in the repertoire back then because a lot of the songs were dropped when the final lineup was settled.

Isn't it just a rewrite of Baggy Trouser by Madness?

Strip off the sampling, drum machines, synths or anything else that isnt a guitar and real drum. Add Joes rhythmn guitar and play it back to back with Know Your Rights. Not saying its the same song but certainly could have been a Clash song.

I think you're listening to too much Coldplay, it's dulling your senses. ;)

As far as I can remember, coming from TeddyB a long time ago, e=mc2 was a BAD, not TRAC tune... The ones dating from the oldest tunes on TIBAD being Bottom line, Sony and sudden impact, in addition to the ones that never made it (Strike, Nation, james Pond, Keep off the grass etc.)

I remember hearing E=Mc2 for the first time and being mighty pissed off that it wasn't a Clash song, After 'Combat Rock' this could have been the direction the clash would go to next
Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."
