That alternate SiP is a pretty solid effort at terribleness, although I don't know if it's quite as depraved as it truly could have been.

"You know, these covers are kind of fun..." - a thought that passed through my drunken brain while listening to 15 Big Ones once.

A comment and a question inspired by further listening to Mike Love's book.
1) I didn't know that the original b-side of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" was "God Only Knows" (tho in some countries the A and B were reversed). It's hard to think of a better 7" single ever released. Either song is enough for most musicians to be able to look back with pride, but both on one piece of vinyl. Stunning.
2) Question for Flex (or anyone else, but I'm taking Flex as the board's most knowledgable BB person): It seems such a natural match made in heaven, so why haven't Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney ever recorded an album together?

I'm no expert but the competitiveness with McCartney around Revolver-Pet Sounds- Sgt Peppers coincided with the first decline in Wilson's mental health so there are probably still some negative associations all these years later. They're also both geniuses melodically and weak on lyrics so it'd be a lopsided collaboration.

All quite plausible. Perhaps, too, it'd be competing generals—both notorious for demanding their own way—which would poison the results. But, man, if their respective strengths could be properly applied …

Get Dylan and Van Dyke to do the lyrics. Could call the project Let Go Of Your Ego.

It's the pairing the Western world has been waiting for!
I think Wolter and I were riffing on the idea of Angry Samoans/Beach Boys collaboration on Twitter at one point.
