Our chicken Jane appears to have left our yard, and we’re very worried. If you see or think you hear a chicken, please call!

That actually happened to my wife when she was a kid. A neighbor nabbed her pet chicken and cooked it. Even shared it with her without her knowledge.

Jesus Christ that's horrifying. Was her next door neighbor Ed Gein?

Undoubtedly a little twisted. But we're talking 3rd world so circumstances were a little different.

Farm people have very different attitudes towards animals (understandable, mostly, given their way of life). When the boss and I were preparing to move to North Carolina, we were at a family reunion (my family), and various uncles, all of them retired farmers, assumed we'd be getting rid of our cats and did not understand whatsoever our attachment to them.

There was a guy in my office earlier for our monthly Lunch and Learn, and he was talking to me like we knew each other (he knew my name, etc.). I have no idea who he was. Is anyone else as bad as I am with names and faces?

I have met many of my wife's friends and colleagues for the first time on multiple occasions. I'm decentish with faces, inasmuch as my brain tells me, "That person is not a complete stranger." But names? Fuhgedaboutit.

I never forget a face but names is another matter.
I have a phobia about calling someone by their name in case I get it wrong. It is worse the better I know them even though I KNOW their name.

Ha! I'm the same way, but not because I fear getting their name wrong. It's probably a weird emotional disfunction with me about not getting too close to people. When I'm leading a seminar discussion, I have to force myself to use students' names. More often than not, I just gesture to them and say, "Go ahead."

I just realized who this guy was. I worked extensively with him on a grant proposal last year. I didn't recognize him at all. I tell VH all the time that he's lucky I recognize him.

Horrible with names, great with faces. Horrible with names...except for the dogs in the neighborhood. Don't remember the owner's names, tho.
