The IMCT observations thread
Re: The IMCT observations thread
2009 was an angry year.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Re: The IMCT observations thread
Not close enough for OED provenance. The only way to settle it is to do an actual examination of any post before that one of eumaas' that I linked to containing the word thread and manually search for the phrase. Hey, can we hire unpaid interns to do that shit?matedog wrote: ↑18 Jan 2018, 2:51pmThis predates that: http://clashcity.com/boards/viewtopic.p ... ead#p74753Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2018, 8:41pmOkay, maybe. Using Google, it might be eumaas, but possibly riffing off Tep.Silent Majority wrote: ↑17 Jan 2018, 8:39pmI believe it was Tep saying "I don't read that thread." when someone linked him to a post covering something he'd just brought up.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2018, 8:36pmHe didn't come up with it, did he? Not tep's original post, but clearly he wrote it around this time.

So which one of us here is actually named Joseph Sutton?

Re: The IMCT observations thread
Does that mean Hoy is one of the black students?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Re: The IMCT observations thread
And to bring it back full circle, wasn't the 90's the peak era of White Teacher Savior movies? Like the one with the Coolio song that butchers Stevie Wonder that I'm sure Hoy loves?
Got a Rake? Sure!

White people can do it all. They make problems for others, and then they save the day, too.

Re: The IMCT observations thread
What happened to LV? He sang the hook to one of the biggest songs of the 90s and then nothing. I just remember profile shots of him sweating profusely in the video.
Anyone remember the Berringer one where he goes around beating up children?
I forgot Marc Anthony had a movie career in the mid 90s (also Hackers) before jumping on the latin music craze of the late 90s.

Re: The IMCT observations thread
While searching for something else, I came across eumaas' wonderful punch to Hoy's nose regarding hand dryers:

It just has about it a perfect grouchy old man dismissal of his grandson.I like having dry hands so I can shake another man's hand.
I'm sure you're more of a hugger, so you probably don't understand my objection.

FWIW those hot air dryers dont do a good job of cleaning ones hands/getting rid of germs.

Hand dryers scare my autistic son to the point of meltdown, and because of this, I resent any place that doesn’t also offer paper towels.

Re: The IMCT observations thread
We were so much younger then. Air dryers are disgusting. I'd rather just dry my hands by waving them around at this point. I'm also pretty deeply skeptical about any real environmental benefit. Paper can be recycled, yo.
Addendum: also, yeah, no-paper towels is ableist.
