Re: Oh Canada!
You know it's a good read when the sub-section headlines are "The seagulls were flying everywhere," "Shoe, towel tossed out window," "Horrified hotel cleaner," and "Making amends with pepperoni."

"Grab some wood, bub.'" - Richard Nixon, Checkers Speech, abandoned early draft
Re: Oh Canada!
This is incredible."One was just bouncing around on the windowsill and I was kind of losing my temper at this point, so I took off one of my shoes and I threw it in the direction of the seagull, and both the seagull and the shoe went out the window," he said.
"The last seagull, it was running around the room and this is a fairly large room, nice room — or it was. And I was chasing this seagull around. It had a big piece of pepperoni in its mouth and I could not get it to leave."
Burchill said he ended up grabbing a towel from the washroom and he jumped the seagull, wrapped it in a towel and threw it out the window. He said the seagull was shaken but wasn't hurt.

Re: Oh Canada!
So I was watching the women’s basketball at the Comm Games, NZ v Canadia.
Some of the Canadian players (well at least one) was on a scholarship at the University of Saskatchewan.
When the commentator said it it was the first time I had ever heard that name said out loud. Now I don’t know if he badly mispronounced it or how it sounds in my head when I read it on here is wrong but it didn’t sound anything like I thought it would.
How do you pronounce Saskatchewan?

Re: Oh Canada!
The trick is to understand that skatch is a full syllable. The unfamiliar pronounce the first syllable as sask; everything falls apart after that.

I say sa SKATCH wun. Sometimes I add in the missing syllable.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

As long as you get the first two right, the rest is open.
