I'm at least as good an athlete as him
But can you beat him in a challenge of wit?

A few weeks ago during a Red Sox game, Jerry Remy told a story about Dick Williams, when he was managing Remy on the Angels. There was some kind of play at second and the situation dictated the manager come out and argue, but Williams, I guess, wasn't up for it. So he came out and just pantomimed a rant. No words, just wild gestures and mouthing the cursing and all. The ump looked at Remy and asked what the fuck he should do and Remy said, eject him, I guess. So Williams got the heave-ho without saying anything.

There were days in Seattle when sideline reporters would catch Lou Piniella coming out of the dugout to hand over the lineup card pre-game and they'd hear him calmly declare, "Boys, I think I'm going to get run today."

Trout HRd twice 2 games in a row. We lost both. We're just keeping him warm for Philadelphia.

I so love Earl Weaver. Not many managers were worth the price of admission, but he's at the top of the list.

Agreed
I wish he and Billy Martin would have guest starred on a buddy cop show back then.
