Last few days I've re-read Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's four "color" Marvel series. All truly exceptional works that emphasize the tragic and romantic aspect of the characters. Spider-man Blue is especially affecting, recreating both the high fun and optimism of late 60s Spidey, but tinged with the foreknowledge of how it'll soon hit a watershed moment that will make it impossible not to approach the character without a sense of tragedy. And as good as this story is, it reinforces to me why killing Gwen Stacy was such a mistake. If it adds depth and significance to the characters, it means the fun that came before can't come back.

I'll have to check that out. I've only read yellow, for obvious reasons. Are gray and white also good?

Of the four, I found Yellow the least compelling. I'm not a Hulk fan, but I really liked Gray. Very sad about what qualities make a monster. White is different than the others, which are about heroes (accepting the Hulk as a hero) and women they love, in that it's about Cap and Bucky. It's romantic and tragic in its own way, but more brotherly. To rank them in terms of their emotional punch: Blue, Gray, White, Yellow.

I don't begrudge people making a living where nobody gets hurt but this is awful on so many levels.

Does this mean you're now a regular Mark Trail reader?

(And if you imagine that last line spoken by Clint Eastwood, it becomes extraordinary.)

He looks like he's been forced to listen to Kokomo, or Phil Collins or both. :scared:

Mark's collar suggests Phil Collins is okay with him; the pink says he's ready to party Mike Love-style.
