Now I'm enjoying this. Hey that song "Strange" is pretty good. ;)
True fact: that cover was the first Wire song I heard. The second was Minor Threat doing 12XU. I knew the former was a cover of someone, but I didn’t know who in those pre-internet Jon Lives In the Suburbs Of South Carolina days. The latter I thought was an original for several years.
Already loving both tracks those covers are both solid. I often forget how fortunate I am to live in a Rock 'n' Roll town and then realise just how remote other places are and the limited way in which music was/is obtainable.
I grew up here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Battleford. It's almost the polar opposite of your experience for music exposure.
Hey, but at least your hometown can claim the "Latter Rain Revival"! ;)
Which, outside that Wikipedia entry, I've never heard of. I tend to think of the place as the site where a mass hanging of Indians took place in the aftermath of the failed 1885 rebellion against Euro-Canadian encroachment. Vicious white supremacy has deep roots in that place. After my mother dies and is buried there, I will never set foot in that shithole again.

I wonder if the Latter Rain Revival was related to the Creedance Clearwater Revival?

CCR were cool; North Battleford is the hole underneath an outhouse. No, no relation at all.

I know they have a connection to the Wedding Present (correct?) - but sell me on Cha Cha Cohen. Who do they sound like?
