MJ + Elvis Costello

Post by Inder »

Came across a 1984 "dance" mix of Pump it Up on YouTube and the description mentions MJ guests on guitar — anyone have the deets on this?

I think they’re confusing it with the song Big Tears, that MJ actually guests on, but I could be wrong.

No, Mick played on Pump it Up as well. Apparently, there was some screw-up in syncing the track and they thought Mick was playing out of time when they mixed it, so they didn't use his part. The "Dance Mix" is a later remix where they used it. This story is per E.C.

Oh! I didn’t know that.

It's also known as the "1984 Monster Mix". Which I thought was a crap title until a mate pointed out that Mix = Mick's. Which made more sense.

I knew you lived on a rock but what I didn't know was you had been living under it. ;)

I don't but as you had contributed to the thread I thought you may have already read it. I've known about the dad connection for ever since the 70s. What I didn't know at the time was that EC was doing the back-up's.

I’m currently reading a Specials book and it was in there, must have forgotten about that thread.
