And, surprising no one, now Beto. I'm guessing that the frontrunners, then, are him, Harris, and Sanders.

His attack dog qualities served him well as a running mate; as his own man, I don't think he'll play. There have also been stories that his dithering has meant funding sources have already found homes.WestwayKid wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 11:23amAt least until Joe makes a decision...Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 6:48amAnd, surprising no one, now Beto. Painful dissection of whether Beto's life has been sufficiently punk: https://theslot.jezebel.com/is-beto-a-p ... 1833288379
Even tho it's clearly a fluffy piece, the whole This is Punk and That's Not Punk categorization is wincing.

It makes me feel better though that she's a woman of color. I thought it was pretty funny, but I took exception to her slam on Big Star.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 1:30pmPainful dissection of whether Beto's life has been sufficiently punk: https://theslot.jezebel.com/is-beto-a-p ... 1833288379

Stuff like his commitment in college to body improvement not being punk—plenty of hardcore scenes emphasize strength and body purity. And punks don't like capitalism? Punks may talk a good game and genuinely loathe corporate capitalism, but, yeah, very few actually hate capitalism.JennyB wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 1:41pmIt makes me feel better though that she's a woman of color. Beto could get those sweet John Kerry numbers for sure.

Re: The Future of the Democratic Party
I think of him as a John Edwards who is even more vague.
He’s a cipher for centrists to put whatever hopes and dreams they have into.

Re: The Future of the Democratic Party
I can see him topping every candidate's VP list for those very reasons. Young, personable, ideologically mishmosh-y. A Bernie/Beto ticket would thrill a lot of focus-group politics sorts.

Re: The Future of the Democratic Party
He’s definitely got VP potential. I do think he would do better for the Dems by staying in Texas and trying to unseat Cornyn, but ego is as ego does.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 3:08pmI can see him topping every candidate's VP list for those very reasons. Well, Clinton was also an imperialist corporate liberal who managed to lose to a semi-literate fascist chimp. Rather than spin her as a victim, grant her the respect of being the incompetent monster who was a wretched enough candidate that made Trump a viable candidate.

Also, people forget she ran for president in 2008 and also lost. It's not like Chillary didn't get multiple shots to grab the brass ring.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 8:36pmWell, Clinton was also an imperialist corporate liberal who managed to lose to a semi-literate fascist chimp.
