Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread

Just saw another round of "punk means being rightwing, actually" comments on a thread about Guttermouth . Checks out. Perhaps my most hated band of all time. And that's saying a lot. I saw comments like: "I didn't realize punk was about following all the rules and thinking the same thing." "So many...

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread

Depends on how you classify things, but I'd leave out Marr—just don't associate him with post-punk. So, in no particular order: Levene Gill McGeoch Geordie Vini Reilly I left him in because the prompt was "post-punk / new wave era," which is still maybe a stretch but close enough. If I had to drop ...

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread

Just listening to Juju by Siouxsie and the Banshees and thinking about the best guitarists of the post-punk / new wave era. Who are your top-5? Here are mine, in no particular order: Johnny Marr Geordie Walker Charlie Burchill John McGeoch I'm actually stuck on my 5th - Robert Smith or Keith Levene...

The other thing that students always respond to with utter bafflement is an article on white rappers, with its discussion of Vanilla Ice. I’m sure Gen Z will at some point decide he was actually cool and resurrect him, like Toto’s “Africa,” but for now his status as ass-clown is still holding true....

Re: Wildlife Encounters

Some recent spider drama. Small compared to Rev’s Costa Rican friends. First spider crawled out of my daughter’s backpack. I eventually sucked him up with a vacuum and tossed him into outdoor trash bin. A few days later he or more likely, another guy showed up in our house. Sucked him up again and ...

Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?

Listening to The Beautiful South today. I always forget how much I like these guys. All timers for me. You heard Heaton's recent stuff? I haven't—can I start anywhere? I assume so. Latest ones have been getting good write ups after he spent some time cycling to pubs to play in. I like that image, I...

The human race is a failed experiment. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DA3eTeEOtqD/?igsh=MWdjZXk1ZWRpc2txcw== Scary because they vote. Hello, If you are utopian, you believe everyone has a right to decide their chosen representatives. If I'm on trial, do I want a jury of "my peers"? Do I want to inc...

35 minutes long, but I enjoyed it.

I watched the MMT one from the same series last weekend, I think I'm going to check them all out.
