Re: Heston and Marky's Friday Top 5
https://archive.ph/KcYvI Foolish Irish, invading Canada is like invading Russia—you realize it's a goddamned wasteland 11 months of the year and regret your choices. Spectacularly ill-conceived alright. I kinda like the notion that we were plucky enough to actually invade someone, but seemed a tad ...

Also US = whiskey and Canada = whisky I'm guessing that that reflects a greater presence of Irish immigrants in the US, while Canada was historically Scottish. Re: Heston and Marky's Friday Top 5
Other versions may have the 'e', but not Thin Lizzy. Isn't that the difference between how it's spelled in the states vs. UK? Don't know about the states, but in the UK it's Irish Whiskey and Scottish Whisky. Which makes the Lizzy record title using Whisky (in UK) at odds with the band's origins. A...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf9jJx0NSjw I take back what I said about the other show. :scared: If you need more info: https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20200925-the-long-lost-hitler-sitcom-that-caused-outrage Interesting, never knew about that. Allo Allo was another WW2 romp that was inoffens...

Paul Simonon singing "pan European harmonies"! Really finding it hard to envisage, but cannot wait to find out. Thanks for posting the article.

I'm pretty sure it was Stills who did the hilarious "go back to school Clash" review but seemed they were kindred spirits when it came to dissing music they didn't like or understand anyway.

Re: The Great Thread of YouTube Magnificence!
Been listening to some Tourists of late, a lot of really good pop tunes with clever, inventive arrangements and, of course, some very obvious star potential on lead vocals. https://youtu.be/cYV4BCpIPB0 Underrated band all three of their albums are solid. They really are. I've been most pleasantly s...

Re: Deep Bob Dylan Theory 2012
I've fallen deeply in love with this slightly slowed down, ever slightly countrified version of Shelter from the Storm from Brixton, 1995. Could well become my go to fix for this wonderful track. The guitar interplay between Bob and Bucky Baxter is a delight and almost understated. https://youtu.be/...

One of my favourite sports stories is of the time Ireland played a world championships qualifier in Dublin and because they had to be back in England to play a match for their clubs the very next day, two of the players just left the pitch immediately and headed off into the throng down the road in...

Just watching Andy Murray in the Australian Open, the guy's got a metal hip, he's nearly 36 years of age, it's nearly 4am in Melbourne and he's been on court slugging it out for nearly 6 hours. I'm exhausted just watching him, incredible stuff. I'm convinced that one of the things that made basebal...
