Re: A Long Hot Summer begins (a dumpster fire chat)

Milwaukee has a 9 pm curfew tonight. National Guard has been called out to enforce. This is what not dealing with 200 plus years of systemic racism looks like in 2020.

Re: No, No, Don't Worry. Racism is Pretty Much Over.

The video was posted on Twitter and so wish I hadn't watched it, words can't describe the evil. You can’t scale these things but what happened in Minneapolis is off the wall. He wasn’t resisting, he couldn’t resist, he said many times he couldn’t breath, he went on unconscious, members of the publi...

Re: Furloughed...

It's getting towards the end of my furlough period (ends 2-weeks from today) and I'm not sure what to expect. Restaurants are opening back up which means business should be starting to pick back up for my company. I've heard nothing, however. No contact since early April (which I think is by design...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread Of Good News

I feel like society is grasping with what is an acceptable level of risk with this virus. I might be oversimplifying, but I'll compare it to the speed limit. The majority of drivers routinely drive over the limit - 15, 20 miles over. It's against the law and there is a level of risk with going fast...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread Of Good News

The problem is when the level of safety/compliance is dictated by your employment circumstances, not your own sense of well being. I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home anyways, but my wife and I are waiting for the call for her to come back to the office and she absolutely doesn't feel lik...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread Of Good News

There is a popular tourist area just across the Wisconsin border from Illinois called Lake Geneva. By all accounts it was packed this past weekend: restaurants, beaches, shops. It's hard to get a read on how people will react now that things are opening back up. My neighbors are a couple in their l...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread Of Good News

I've seen a subtle, yet noticeable shift away from COVID coverage in our local news outlets. They're still there, but they make up far less of the headlines than before. Even daily case updates no loner appear to carry much weight. The virus is obviously still out there, but I'm curious about the sh...

Re: Return of the Mighty Observations Thread

The big criticism we can make on Rollins is being a pitchman for various corporations. He's done ads for Apple and a car company. I don't see how anyone can spin that as consistent with punk values. I can see his point with signing to a major label—even if I don't agree with the overall argument—bu...

Re: Return of the Mighty Observations Thread

Ok...? Pretty easy for him to say. According to Wikipedia, Joe was worth about 1 million pounds when he died. Doing the inflation and pounds to dollars math, he was worth about $1.2 million. I assume that would have gone up in the past 18 years, but that said - I really don't think Joe cared about ...
