Re: The All Smiths/Morrissey Thread

Forgetting Moz for the moment - I'm seeing Johnny Marr tonight - which for this lifelong Smiths fan is extremely exciting!! I haven't been this giddy about a show in a long time. I've really like his recent solo albums (The Messenger, Playland, Call the Comet) and honestly - yeah, I want to hear a ...

Re: Van Morrison live in Boston 1968

Ah I will get there. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the greatness of Astral Weeks and really like some of the tracks, it’s just - vile heresy warning! - I tend to prefer later VM, as in circa 82-83 onwards. Though I also really like the early live stuff with the Caledonian soul orchestra, an inco...

Re: Van Morrison live in Boston 1968

Making my way through my first listen and I'm really loving it. Great historical snapshot of an artist in transition. You can hear the AW sound coming together and I like the "rawness" of this live set versus the studio versions that sound a little more slick. Exactly. I like the rawness too, but w...

Re: Van Morrison live in Boston 1968

No haven’t heard it yet but looking forward to it. To be honest while I truly love VM I’ve never fully gotten into Astral Weeks for some reason but this still tweaks my interest. Love TB Sheets of the early material so can’t wait to hear that. Yeah, that's really surprising. TB Sheets is here again...

Re: Van Morrison live in Boston 1968

The legendary Catacomb Tapes? Never heard them...but would love to. I started to get into Van Morrison several years ago and I've gotten pretty much hooked. If it was offered for sale and then quickly yanked - yeah - sounds like a copyright dump...which is a shame. Yep, these are the mythical "Cata...

Re: Bands that are...fine

The Doors. Led Zeppelin. Post-Barrett Pink Floyd. Loved them all as a kid, but can't bring myself to listen to them now. I'd go so far as to turn off LZ and PF if it came on. Guess I might leave the Doors on in the background for a couple songs. And I may go back to revisit them, but Guided by Voice...

Van Morrison live in Boston 1968

(Disclaimer: happy to PM a DL link to anyone.) Don't see any discussion of this here, but it dropped for about an hour last week before disappearing. It's likely a copyright dump and not intended to see the light of day any time soon. Has anyone heard it? Any thoughts? My two cents are that it's won...

Re: The Clash observations thread.

Well, I'm thoroughly enjoying my Clash tour of London. Today I crossed off Rehearsals (plus the location of the first album cover, obviously), and Wilmcote House (plus the Westway, obviously). It's much better doing this stuff with my wife who will put up with it, rather than the friend I was here ...

Re: The Clash observations thread.

Is that The Elgin pub or Elgin Avenue? If you didn’t make it last time I’d suggest The Chippenham pub on the corner of Shirland Road, Walterton Road and Chippenham Road. Upstairs is where the Charlie Pigdog Club was where 101ers had a residency. Across the road is where 101 Walterton Road used to b...
