Re: What's the Jackson 5 song that they used for inoculated city?

I find Mick's shameless riff-lifting to be kind of endearing. He's like a little kid, bursting with enthusiasm over the song he just heard on the radio.

Re: When is EET WEEK this year?

I thought it might be canceled because of Covid. Maybe we can do a virtual EET.

Re: 28th May 1983 US FESTIVAL REMIXED

Mick and Paul seemed to be having issues with their gear that night. That super crisp mix we heard on these 83 dates got super muddy. Maybe it was just the feed. Either way, thank you Bazar.

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

I know this has probably been addressed already but this thread is so long and winding. The four other tracks NOT on this acetate that would complete the double LP are : Ghetto Defendant Sean Flynn Cool Confusion Idle In Kangaroo Court Questions: 1. Are the Sound System versions for Cool Confusion ...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

I know I go on about TOTP but I always think of this alternate timeline where they went on the show and Young Heston got to see them at the Newcastle City Hall in July 82. Don't feel too bad, you wouldn't have seen Topper! Yeah but Joe's singing was much better and Mick's excesses had been reined i...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

This is pretty much it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSQe6-EVzeY Switching hands in the chorus is what they call mach schau . This is my main beef with late-period Topper-- nimble but static and unloose drumming on most of the songs. That's an absolutely undanceable beat, severely lacking in swi...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

"Better make Inoculated City shorter and worse! There needs to be room for Red Angel Dragnet! I'm very successful!" In fairness, he did take over a minute off of Red Angel Dragnet. We lost more of the sound collage portion of Inoculated sure. What's a producer's job, if not to say: don't let your p...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

Interesting that the mixing session footage lyrics are closer to Combat Rock than to Rat Patrol eventhough I believe this was made in November or December 81 (ie prior to Rat Patrol being completed): https://youtu.be/uGIyt8_xbcU?t=244 Here's a cleaned up alt. take of KYR. https://mega.nz/file/Y0oXU...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

This might sound like an off the wall choice but Todd Rundgren would have been a good pick too. I think he and Mick would have hit it off and he was/is a big a pothead as they were. He helped The Psychedelic Furs and Cheap Trick make the transition from riff-rock to more mainstream New Wave club-re...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

Indeed. But it was also their biggest selling album at a point in time when the entire industry had written them off years before. It certainly would've been interesting if whichever producer was chosen they had been someone brave and conducive to new ideas. I think Todd may have been too disciplin...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

So true! Mick's production sounds like an *urban vietnam* - humid, dense jungle vibe filled with hazy marijuana and narco-funk elements. Thick dub without sounding muddy. And it compliments Joe's themes of government angst, political turmoil, urban vigilantism, drug addled vets, etc. Keith Forsey a...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

Did they really need a named producer a Steve Lillywhite or a Martin Rushent? Someone who at the very least would be receptive to Mick's inventive ideas. Listening to RP I feel there is very little wrong with Mick's production. Just listen to "Red Angel Dragnet" and those weird layers of sound unde...
