Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate
I've recently put together a slightly different take on RPFFB by taking this acetate, the Sound System tracks and some other things. I decided to include the "Overpowered by Funk" b/w "Long Time Jerk" bonus 7" into the album's tracklist itself, as disc 2 was way too short and the band did the exact ...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate
The way I currently have it, I just throw "Overpowered by Funk" and "Long Time Jerk" in as bonus tracks on disc two so that both records are roughly the same length (37 and 38 minutes respectively), but I'd really like to sequence them into the tracklist somehow. Speaking of which, was "Midnight to...

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate
Thanks to all of you, I've put together my own version of the original mix of Rat Patrol from Fort Brag. What a great record! The extended "Inoculated City" is probably the highlight of the record for me. But I'd like to point out something that no one seems to have noticed so far in the thread: som...

Why didn't Mickey Gallagher return for the Sandinista! tour?
Personally, I love the five-piece lineup of the Clash that played during 1980, with Mickey on keys. He added a new dimension to their live sound, and considering the fact that he was all over the Sandinista album, I wonder why they didn't invite him back for their 1981 gigs in support of the album. ...

Another one I just thought of: Terry Williams, from Rockpile

Re: Who could have been an adequate substitute to Topper?
Mark Brzezicki of Big Country Charley Charles of The Blockheads Everett Morton of The English Beat David Barbarossa of Bow Wow Wow If they'd gotten Charley, The Clash would've just become the Blockheads! I mean, they already worked with Norman Watt-Roy and Mickey Gallagher extensively by that point...

Re: Who could have been an adequate substitute to Topper?
HELL YEAH! One of my favorite drummers, he'd 100% be up to the task. I doubt he'd leave the Attractions for the Clash, though, but it would certainly be a great sight to see :D

Re: Who could have been an adequate substitute to Topper?
I've thought about this for a while, and only one name came to my mind: XTC's Terry Chambers . First of all, he's a very versatile drummer and can play all of those tricky rhythms Topper and the band dabbled with constantly (have a listen to the English Settlement album and you'll see that for yours...

Who could have been an adequate substitute to Topper?
Once Topper got fired from the band in mid-1982, they were left with the daunting task of replacing him. I don't think the eventual replacement the band chose for their 1982 US tour, former drummer Terry Chimes, was the adequate choice, though. He's a pretty pedestrian and, well, average drummer, wh...

Re: The Clash Studio Logs/Sessionography
Just an addition: since Charlie Don't Surf was debuted live at around the same time as Somebody Got Murdered, in April/May 1980, it would make sense that the former was also recorded during the August/September Wessex sessions as Somebody Got Murdered. Just a guess, but would align with the fact tha...
