Re: KISS vs. Swans: The Poll

I don’t know anything anymore. You're ready for Filth . :shifty: https://i.redd.it/yqpxhxyvxf521.jpg I listened to the first three songs. I really enjoyed the drumming and percussion. Obviously they were going for a sound and definitely succeeded. Not something I’m going to be in the mood for often.

Re: KISS vs. Swans: The Poll

These 70s KISS songs just sound like bad Skynyrd. Swans obviously covers a larger time period, so the sound change between these three songs is pronounced - one reminds me of Pretty Hate Machine era NIN (I'm assuming Swans is a big influence for Reznor). Musically Swans is dense and interesting, vo...

i have a bit of a soft spot for this song, in the sense that i have a soft spot for cul-de-sac failures.
There's something to it. And some interesting stuff going on. I might adjust my ratings because this should be higher than Getcha Back.

Okay, by no means am I endorsing that song, but that 80s production does it no favours whatsoever. In a more simple, straight-forward 60s environment, it might have been okay.
I should have read your response before voting for Swans.

Re: The Thread to Ruminate About Mike Love's Rape Van

I had to listen to this one a lot to figure out what the hell I thought about it. 1986's "Rock n Roll to the Rescue" from the compilation "Made in U.S.A." (1986) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APGMpmK398s Lead Vocal - Brian Wilson Following the tepid response to Beach Boys 85, they decided to crank...

The low participation in this poll seems like a rejection of both bands. The decision not to offer a "None of the above" option seems wise.
I really just don't want to spend much time with either band, but I'll try to weigh in soon.

Re: Does Contemporary Music Suck?

Following on from this—when studying popular music over time (the 1960s vs. today, let's say), there's a dynamic at play that I find interesting: if you think about it, there's no real reason why current pop music should suck. I'd imagine most of the Katy Perrys, Taylor Swifts, et al don't write th...

Re: KISS vs. Swans: The Poll

As a woman, KISS makes me ill. Also, their music stinks. Swans all the way. Ehhh, to be fair, Gira has had some serious issues with women. If you mean the rape allegation, that ended up being murky. She said rape, he said consensual but misinterpreted on his part. I initially leaned to her side unt...
